} imprisonment

yesterday was a half day... took the chance to meet denise cos she was going to buy a digicam in sim lim. before that cleaned the guit cage with some other exco pple. killed 2 cockroaches (kian pang killed another 2) hahaha. so disgusting. one fat one had its innards squished out. bleh. i think i might have a temporary cockroach phobia for a few days.

anyway the journey to sim lim got quite complicated cos it turned out that denise got the cam too quickly so i just met her in sim lim to go to the botanic gardens, cos she wanted to take some pictures there. while she snapped i talked the whole way.. haha... complained, mostly.

one topic which we kept going for a long time was on singapore and its horrible meritocratic culture. how there is a lot of (too much) emphasis on results and achievements, even if it is cca or cip. i mean, thats ridiculous. thats not all-round development. thats just developing students into these workers who know nothing except work, work, work. achieve, achieve, achieve.

its so strange. how many people can say that they are truly happy staying in singapore? who can say that they are truly happy if they keep working overtime or burning the midnight oil? and its not like there is an official written rule that you HAVE to work so much. its just a feeling that you have to do it, or you will be left behind. its the competition that drives everyone nuts. and over the edge too, apparently. how many kids have done themselves in because of poor results?

but despite this unhappiness, how many people can rise up and fight this vicious culture? but everyone is too secure, too comfortable, the government makes sure of that. thats why no one really wants a change, because a change would take away their security.

happiness, in exchange for success, security and comfort? i dunno. it seems like a really high price to pay to me.

i will stop at that thought and maybe continue another time..

anyway this week has been a bad week. i think it may be because of my social issues. its not something that happened suddenly, but rather i have been experiencing it for a very long time but i guess it finally got to me. oh well. i dunno, still trying to figure it out. :)

thats all for now i guess. have a good weekend. :D
