} fate vs choice

The ASoIaF addiction has not died down so this entry naturally has to be me finding meaning and lessons in the books.

CoK focused a little bit more on the Greyjoys and most of all Theon. And as easy as it is to dislike his greed, his hunger for power, I can't help but think that he was doomed by the start. he was brought away at a young age, taken on as a ward. And even though he was treated well, he would never have belonged in the family. But even though he longs for home, at home he is seen with suspicion because he is no longer the same. he can't be a Stark nor a Greyjoy. and I wonder if that greed, that hunger to prove himself could have been prevented at all.

is it possible to CHOOSE who you want to be despite all the circumstances? or does it take someone really special to overcome all the resentment and find positivity. while most of us fall into the trap.

i guess i am just wondering if i can overcome these insecurities at all, or if i will just be consumed by them. Consumed. Yes, that is what I'm afraid of.

To be sure-footed. I would like that.
