} round of 16, england vs germany

ah..................... well.

Truth of the matter is, you don't win all your battles. there were many opportunities for england tonight but i guess luck was just not on our side. the number of times the ball was on target hit the cross-bar or missed the net by inches must have taken away several years from my life, seriously. my heart was hopping like crazy!

ANOTHER truth of the matter is, it has been a long, LONG overdue call for the England team to PLEASE BUCK UP! the first 2 goals tonight by germany were completely preventable, there were red shirts around who could have at least attempted to take the ball. as one frustrated fan shouted out tonight...."GET THE BALL!!" defence was weak especially in the first half i thought, and if they had been just a little tighter or more focused i think the majority of germany's goals would have been prevented.

i think the other thing is that the team is facing a difficult transition from the old guards to the young blood? especially since the old familiar players are the big names. they're always in the highlights while the new players are somewhat left out and we're pretty much in the dark about them. they failed to perform, too. instead of focusing so much on terry-rooney-lampard-gerrard (oh my gosh they all rhyme) (i can add the 2 coles too), why not put some pressure on the new players for a change?? defoe adds some spark to the old, expiring team but uh who's james milner again?

please, england, stop relying on your old tricksters. especially rooney. the poor guy is under so much pressure he couldn't score a single goal this world cup!! -_____- (but i still believe in you!!! hahah)

and i guess I have to concede that the Germans were a strong team who played well today. their passing was undoubtedly tighter, they played fast and they took their opportunities well... something England can seriously learn from judging from the number of times their ball was intercepted today. :/ and their goalie was infuriatingly good. ENGLAND PLEASE SCOUT FOR SOME GOOD GOALKEEPERS, THANKS!

but England WAS fighting, which was exactly what broke my heart. it was a good fight, but not enough.

the HIGHLIGHT of the match for me though was seriously, Matt Upson's totally fluke goal!! it was a perfect example that sometimes being in the right place at the right time, and some sheer dumb luck, can be an awesome combination. he is the Man of the Match for me and i think i fell in love with him. can watch the replay of the goal again and again and again seriously. it was a refreshing spark in england's play and had it not been disrupted by the poor refereeing (i.e. failing to call lampard's goal) i think it would have continued wonderfully into half-time.

but what-ifs are just annoying, and i look forward to a huge brushing up of England's team. hopefully dear Fabio will continue coaching because i think he has done wonderfully with a team who didn't even qualify at the Euro and he is great entertainment on the sidelines.
here, a photo. oh Capello, don't look so sad! watch a replay of Upson's goal it'll cheer you up.
