} still sore about it

the day began not so well with a slightly blocked nose and me trying to fix my shoes. it was a pair that i had bought at a flea market... brown 'leather' oxfords at $12, too hard to resist. now the 'leather' is flaking away (i had a niggling suspicion this would happen, but i don't know why i never trust my instincts!!) and both soles came off on the first night i wore them. bugger.

both shoe and sole refused to stick to the superglue, instead the glue ended up mostly on my hands, and my left palm was almost permanently bonded to the sole. i ignored the sticky sensations on my hands at first, thinking that it would probably peel off. later on i inspected the packaging of the glue, which helpfully stated that it bonds in 10 Seconds. after some minutes at the sink trying to scrape off the glue in vain with water and soap, i read the Warning on the package which thankfully advised me to apply acetone and said nothing about any uhh toxic illness.

was just looking up acetone on wiki just now and it's found in nail polish remover, so i started hunting for one around my sister's side of the room. found a green bottle which is supposed to be gentle on the hands and moisturising. washed my whole hands with the remover, basically, and didint really feel the glue wash away but they did feel very moisturised. ridiculously soft, in fact. there is really something in these manufactured chemical stuff. and it smells nice too, kind of clean and hygienic like a table after you've wiped it with those magic cleaner things.

why, you may ask, did my day begin at 2pm? i actually woke up at 10 but spent the last 4 hours finishing the last of the Thursday Next series out so far (First Among Sequels). if there's anything particularly good about this summer, it's that i am reading like there's no tomorrow.

my brother just told me that Nintendo is releasing a new game console called the 3DS... meaning the games will be played on a 3D screen, no need for the special glasses and all. but it all kind of sounds like bollocks to me, like the 3D TV idea. what people really need is better content, like better games or better TV shows, the medium is secondary, no? to give a very obvious example, who needs 3DTV, or HDTV, or even COLOUR TV if the World Cup isn't even aired for free??? sigh. this may be THE biggest reason i wouldn't stay in singapore. freedom of speech and stuff is one thing, but denying one's right to watch the world cup is the biggest abomination of all.
