} why i like working

especially during busy times. there is this RUSH that i get from making drinks, one after another. after a while i get into auto-pilot mode: scoop choc; milk; powder; ice; cap; blend; prep cup; (jean turns off blender for me, haha); pour; rinse blender; repeat. its the same rush that i get when scrambling to finish assignments before deadlines... it never feels good when im doing it but absolutely marvellous once i've finished.

and then the wonderful people that i work with. tonight was a fun shift - esther, jean, zi xuan, tiffany, frank, boss. HAHA. quite amusing to see boss wiping tables. and i have to say, for all his chauvinistic-pig and stingy ways, i have to appreciate that at least he somewhat cares enough for the place to help out when we're short on staff. laughter, people watching, 'spoiled' waffles, all the little things that make a busy shift so much less draining.

and i dont get to meet customers as much now since i havent been doing floor for ages... but nevertheless i see nice and patient and considerate people from time to time, and faith in humanity is temporarily restored. no effusive politeness is necessary (when i serve your suckao im going to put down 3 things on the table, please dont say 'thankyou' after each one...), sometimes an appreciative smile is more than enough.

but the best part about working these night shifts? its this very moment, after i've taken a shower and im waiting for my hair to dry, and i have an excuse to stay up for nothing. in this time, time itself seems to stop, because the rest of the world is sleeping, and i can do whatever i havent got around to doing for some time - playing guit or watching tv or whatever. though most of the time i just end up deciding to lie face-down on my bed and eventually fall asleep...

but for these few hours, at least - there is no law, no classes, no social problems, no fears, no LAWR, no friends, no family, no ambitions, no regrets, just... chocolate. drinks. orders. bills. dishes. tables. other brown/black-shirted people. a bald man on the wall. tired. sleep.

and the world is at peace.
