} "...you see how uneasily they nod to me?"

oops it turns out the new diaryland is not black and white and red and emo. what i thought was red is, in fact, ORANGE. there must be something wrong with my monitor. =/

today on the bus on my way home from work (man i sound so old now) i sat opposite a lawyer. you know those seats where you're facing everyone else on the bus? the lawyer was sitting there with a huge case (case, ha ha, punny) next to him and there was a ginormous red book sitting on his lap. i stared at him and the huge case and the huge book (at first i was embarrassed to stare but later decided he was asking for it anyway, sitting on that particular seat where EVERYONE is bound to stare at him). i had just had eight hours staring in front of the computer screen so my eyes were FRICKING tired (NOT EXAGGERATING!!) and i had a hard time reading the words on the spine of the book.

i first read it as 'STATUTES OF THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE' and i dont know what statutes mean but it sounds legal-y so i thought this guy must be a lawyer. and then i looked again and i saw 'STATUES OF THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE' and then i thought haha im so stupid this guy must be an architect or smth. and then my brain slowly started functioning and realised architect + full black suit + huge case + huge binded book with no pictures = doesnt match up. and then i looked again and this time for sure it really was STATUTES, not STATUES, and this, boys and girls, is why you must never get a job that involves staring at a computer all day long.

anyway, i realised that i have the tendency to be (i cant think of an english word for this) 'norak'. i mean, i know in my mind and in my heart that status and fame and riches and all that jazz isnt really that big of a deal, and im not really that shallow, but i still cant help going 'wahh' when i see a display of such things. or like when i am impressed by things like the new national museum building..i mean i KNOW theres much much more impressive structures out there but im just easily impressed i guess. =P in this case i dont know if it was the suit or the case or the book that made me go 'wahh', but anyway i kept staring and i think eventually he felt awkward so he got up and went to stand instead. =/ oops.

i guess i somewhat understand a bit more of what alfieri was saying in his opening monologue.. i guess even now lawyers are still considered, yknow, 'up there'.

well anyway. today the workload got heavier, and for the next 2 days its going to be worse. more staring at the computer ARGGGGG (AND YET WHY AM I STILL SUBJECTING MY EYES TO MORE OF THIS TORTURE RIGHT NOW). im starting to enjoy the chinese radio. some songs are replayed so often they're stuck in my head now... but its not too bad. sometimes they play Built To Last (the chinese version, HA HA) and then theres a few surprises in the form of english songs. today they played Wait For You by Elliott Yamin. yay! =) that made me happy for that little bit.

to offset some of the damaging effects of an office job, im going to start taking the tips mentioned on 93.8 the other day and take an eye break every 20 mins. =) (haha. doubt it will last actually.) and i read an article that said that people who eat breakfast gain weight less easily, AND since i get dropped off early anyway i can have a good breakfast every morning from now on. not sure how it works but im guessing its because eating a good breakfast makes you want to eat less subsequently for lunch & esp dinner.. and while breakfast & lunch are digested and burned away, dinner kind of mostly stays there while you sleep and pig away. hahaha. ANDD my office is on the 6th floor AND the canteen is on the 8th floor so i take the stairs most of the time, makes me feel less like a tub of lard though i doubt it really makes much difference.

still no call from max brenner's. i hate how i keep hoping. have just realised that the other bad side about being dismissed like this is i wont be able to talk about it to future employers. esp other f&b jobs. how can i say that i only lasted 2 frickinn days?? D:
