I want to be in a band

Like when I have my morning bath
The shower in my hand
Id sing whatevers on my mind
Sometimes just a verse or two
Sometimes an entire song, humming
The parts I barely know
And Id stay there an hour if
I didnt have school to go

Or when I hold a pencil
And I'm tapping it during class
Youd think that Im just bored but
Im practising my drumming beats
One, two, now with the left!
My foot joins in the rhythm
While others listen to Newtons Laws
Im making music in my head

Or when Im sweeping the floor; I guess
You could imagine whats next
Id be jamming to a rousing audience
Sweeping them off their feet
Ive got the right stance, Ive got the technique
Ive got just what it takes
It doesnt even matter that
The sounds coming out from my mouth

I wanted to be in a band

But now Im too old
Too late,

Too bad.

Ive put my dream aside
And faced up to the world
Its just far too cruel a place
To live with your head in the clouds

But still I cant help but hum sometimes
And walk with a spring in my step
Cos with every heartbeat that I feel
I hear a tune in my head

The ringing of a bell
The chirping of crickets
The honking of cars in a traffic jam
The screeching of tyres
Loud footsteps of a runner
Soft ones of two lovers
Clinking of glass
Breaking of glass
Scratching
Purring
Banging
Crushing
Tearing
Rustling
Crashing
Gasping

STOP

And the tap, tap, tapping
of an all-too-familiar pencil
as I ponder a crossword puzzle

I tried to leave the music
But music never left me
Even as my heart keeps on beating
And life keeps going on

Ill keep making music
And being my own band.

No Such Thing - John Mayer

"Welcome to the real world",
she said to me, condescendingly
Take a seat, take your life
Plot it out in black and white

Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings and the drama queens
I'd like to think the best of me
Is still hiding up my sleeve

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something's better
On the other side

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you've got to rise above

So the good boys and girls take the
so called right track; faded white hats
Grabbing credits and maybe transfers
They read all the books but they can't find the answers
And all of our parents
They're getting older
I wonder if they've wished for anything better
While in their memories
Tiny tragedies

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something's better
On the other side

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you got to rise above

I am invincible
I am invincible
I am invincible
As long as I'm alive

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you've got to rise above

I just can't wait 'til my 10 year reunion
I'm gonna bust down the double doors
And when I stand on these tables before you
You will know what all this time was for
